Stage one : Research and Development
First idea:
For our music video we will be doing the song ‘Iron Man’ by Black Sabbath
The star image of the band in this video is punk rock. Black Sabbath is an English rock/metal band. We wanted to create an image of this for our video but having the members of the band be female rather than male.
For the video there would be a main character who relates to the song as if she were the “iron man”. She is an evil woman who we see from time to time brutally kill a man.. she will be doing this by smashing their head into walls, snapping arms, smashing them into the floor etc… to show she has the power and she is the strongest.
There will be cuts to her and the band depending on the tension of the music, if there is a guitar solo, there will be a cut to and fro the guitarist and the actress. The band will be dressed in chains, short ripped tops, possibly denim ripped shorts, tattoos, dark and heavy make-up and piercings. The iron woman will be dress in all black, with leather pants and zip up top from the front, slightly open to show cleavage, to give a sexy and fierce look.
The idea of the evil woman killing the man and having a hardcore female band is a reverse stereotype of the male murderer killing the helpless woman and reverse stereotype of the male band.
Stage two – Pre production
“Greenlight” in media terms means pre-production begin. In the film industry, pre-production usually only commences once a project has been developed and is greenlit. At this stage a project will generally be fully financed and have most of the key elements such as principal cast, director and cinematographer in place, as well as a screenplay which is satisfactory to all the financiers. It can also mean the actors of the movie are about to shoot the movie.
Stage three : Production
In production, the video is created and shot. This is a stage where more crew will be recruited, like assistant directions and sounds editors.
Stage four : Post production
Post production is part of the filmmaking process. It occurs in the making of television programmes, films, advertising, photography, digital art and of course music videos. It is term for all stages of production occurring after the actual end of shooting the completed work. Post production includes editing the video, recording and editing the soundtrack, adding visual effects (CGI etc), foley work, sounds effects etc. This is a very long process, and takes longer than actually shooting the video.
Stage five : Distribution and Exhibition
This is the final stage, where the product is released to the public. This stage is similar to the distribution and exhibition of a film being released to the cinema. Advertising will be required. The music videos is also advertisement to the band and their look and sound. A music video gives the band a particular aura and tries to attract the target audience that they are aiming for.
